Day 52: Back to Cebu for A Taste of Filipino Birthday Celebration

Sunday, April 7, 2013

Its the 52nd day of my ICS Volunteering Journey and it's also Phillip's (co-volunteer)  Birthday Celebration.
Last photo before leaving Yoonek beach resort! Thank you Bantayan Island!
Maureen, our co-volunteer suggested a surprise for our birthday boy. To throw him on the beach at 12 Midnight. And then sing happy birthday! Few of us waited on the beach. It was so wonderful watching the stars that night! It was far from the city lights and its pollution making every twinkle bright and clear.

He was very surprised indeed but it was also surprising for other volunteers who weren't wearing their swimming clothes because Phillip splashed water on their faces! It was so so much fun!

After the surprise, we all went to a burger shop. It was Phillip's treat! And if he is reading this, Thank you so much! We love it!
The ICS Bicycle Gang! On the Loose!
We rode with our bikes going back to Yoonek! It's very unforgettable! It brings back childhood memories!

Breakfast time!
In the morning, we had our breakfast. I woke up a bit late but last night was all worth it!
Pray!Something one shouldn't miss on his/her birthday!
We dropped by the church and paused for a while to offer a short prayer. Most Filipinos are catholic and when celebrating our birthdays, we usually go to the church to pray and thank God for all the blessings we have received!

First time to write Phillip's new age - 22y/o
We wrote our names before entering the port. It's Phillip's first time to write his age as 22 on the form. Something memorable!

Goodbye Bantayan!
And then, we walked to ride the barge. With the an arc at our backs saying "Welcome to the Municipality of Sta. Fe". It's now time to go home.
A Birthday present!
While on the barge, I wrote my message on Phillip's present then I asked Sonny (our co-volunteer and Phillip's host home counterpart) to give it to him when they arrive home.

Cebu City! We're coming back!
Finally, we we're able to ride on the bus in spite that many people were crowding the terminal. It was a relief to finally get rested. The 3-4 hours bus ride starts now.

Phillip's birthday dinner at Larsian
When we arrived Cebu and we went to Larsian, a barbeque place. It's the second time for the team to be here. British volunteers say that in U.K., the birthday celebrant don't usually treat their friends. Its a taste of Filipino culture for our co-volunteers.

After today, we will all be going back to our work placements! Now, I am very challenged and fired up to contribute more. It's the three months in your lifetime that surely did matter! :)
