We had a whole day Filipino Sign
Language Lessons. Denven, Janice, Ronnie, Sonny and Jera ( Filipino
Deaf Volunteers) showed to us new words which I found very handful.
They are very enthusiastic and patient with us. And I find that deaf
people , same as the hearing, loves to play games or have energizers.
We played three different games today:
Game I: We had a racing game. We
were divided into 2 groups and each person should sign the words that
were flashed. The first to sign will get a step closer to the goal.
Most of the words were familiar to me because one of them was my
former roomate who helped me review lessons.
Game II: We
then had the Paint me a Picture. We were grouped into 3 and had to
act on then go for a pause. The best team to portray or characterize
the word will win the round. It was very fantastic to act out from
the word Family to the word Horror.
Game III:
We then played a very unique Math Relay game using our faces.
Combinations of facial movements were given a particular value which
were: Lip Pointing - 100, Blinking 50, Winking - 10 , Tounge Out-
5 and Eyebrows Up – 1. A number were given to be passed on using
the facial expression and at the end of the line, someone must add
all , make the total and tell the game master the digits.
After the games
and the FSL lessons, we had a 35-item test. They are going to do the
signing and we would right the words being signed on a sheet of
paper. Some words were really hard and I almost forgot how the word
“Lucky” was signed. Luckily, I got a perfect score.
Late today, we
were told that our supervisors were able to find us a host home which
excited me and the other three volunteers who were homeless for about
5 days now. And just so happy that I was able to meet our host mother
yesterday during our visit to Barangay Hall in Mabolo.
We had fun night
in Ayala Mall Cebu City which we hoped to join the Zumba Dancing at
the terraces. Unfortunately, it will still be next week. Four of us (
Me and my British Counterpart and 2 other Volunteer Pairs) walked
going to the Living Gospel ( the Place where we are temporarily
staying).
On our way, I
throw out some really corny jokes to just ease everyone as we walk
around. I then found the flower shop and bought two roses for the two
female British Volunteers (my friends). I was so glad that made them
happy and I was looking forward that as the friendship that we
started to build will continue to grow as we move on with our ICS
Volunteering Journey.
Yes, I got perfect
in today's exam. It can be a big thing because it shows how learned I
am about FSL. But it's just a reflection about the beauty of hardwork
and having passion and interest in what you do. You can make the
best happen if you just give your best and surely God will do the
rest.
Test
scores can be perfected , but – in
life – we can only
hope for the best, make the world something better and always stand
for what is good.
