It's the first day of our In Community
Orientation. Our supervisors had a role playing activity about
conflict that could possibly happen in our team, host home and work
placements. We were divided into three groups and was given time to
discuss and act out.
The Three Scenarios Presented:
The Host Homes:
Conflict in the host homes may arise
because volunteers and host families may be unable to follow the
agreement that was set. The scenery showed people being hooked to
technology making barriers between volunteers and host homes, waking
up late/unable to prepare meals , not helping in household chores,
and even being very drunk causing trouble.
The Team:
Miscommunication
and too much Exclusivity may lead to conflict. The scenario presented
were volunteers going to a beach over the weekend without telling the
others. The volunteers who were left invited them to go Karaoke but
was ignored because they were at the beach enjoying. The next working
day turned out to be a disaster because they weren't invited to the
beach and they didn't get a reply on their invitation.
The Work Placements:
Some Volunteers
losing interest in meetings or activities can become a source of the
conflict. The scenario presented was a volunteer having someone on
the phone while having a meeting and another volunteer who seems to
be tired and demotivated to work.
After the session,
we talked about assignments to the different Team Committees. These
are done to make the team do something aside from the current project
on Deaf Inclusion.
