Day 0: Gearing-up for the Journey

Thursday, February 14, 2013

I'm going to travel to Cebu from my hometown (Bayugan City). It would take me an hour going to Butuan riding a passenger van , and then,  about 15 minutes to Bancasi Airport.

For the next three months, I will be out of Mindanao Island. Soon, I will be immersing myself to the unexplored world , by the many,  which is the Deaf Community. I am also much excited to have a taste of what British Culture is.

This volunteering opportunity is a chance to learn Filipino Sign Language and I am so grateful for the Volunteer Sending Overseas (VSO) for considering me to be part of the International Citizenship Service (ICS) which is giving the privilege to 10 Filipino and 10 British Youth to learn and create an impact to the world.

My flight tomorrow will still be around 2:00 PM, so I decided to pack my things later. There are a lot of concepts to plan before leaving especially how to run NewsBayugan.info which I wanted to become a volunteer run news organization in our town just like a citizen's watch - especially for the upcoming elections.

Instead of celebrating Valentines day with friends, I decided to finally have my medical examination today (which should have been earlier) as part of the application requirements. The reason was that needed to put some more attention to the English Proficiency examination for us teachers' who are looking for a job in the public school system.

What made this day important and worth remembering? It is that my family went to one of our local restaurants to dine and have some time to chat and bond. Surely the next three months will be very challenging but I know God is with me together with the memories I will bring as I journey to the unexplored world.
